On Monday February 12, 2018, the American Library Association (ALA) announced the winners of the 2018 Youth Media Awards, and several artists from The Author Village received well-deserved recognition.

First, congratulations to Matthew Cordell, the author and illustrator of Wolf in the Snow, which won the Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished American picture book for children. The book was published by Feiwel & Friends, an imprint of Macmillan.

Second, congratulations to Laurel Snyder, the author of Charlie & Mouse, which won the Theodor Seuss Geisel Award for the most distinguished book for beginning readers. Charlie & Mouse was illustrated by Emily Hughes and published by Chronicle Books.

And congratulations to John Parra, the illustrator of Frida Kahlo and Her Animalitos, which was one of two books to win a Pura Belpré Illustrator Honor Award. The Pura Belpré Awards honor Latino writers and illustrators whose children’s books best portray, affirm, and celebrate the Latino cultural experience. Frida Kahlo and Her Animalitos was written by Monica Brown and published by NorthSouth Books, Inc., an imprint of NordSüd Verlag AG.

We are so happy for Matt, Laurel, and John. We are so fortunate you are part of this community.
