We’re beyond excited here at The Author Village!

On Monday January 28, 2019, the American Library Association (ALA) announced the winners of the 2018 Youth Media Awards, and four authors from The Author Village received well-deserved recognition.

First, congratulations to Meg Medina, the author of Merci Suarez Changes Gears, which won the Newbery Medal for the most distinguished American children’s book of the year. Merci Suarez Changes Gears was published by Candlewick Press.

Second, congratulations to Elizabeth Acevedo, the author of The Poet X, which won the Michael L. Printz Award, given to the best book written for young adults; the Pura Belpré Award, presented annually to a Latino/Latina writer whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth; and an Odyssey Honor Award, given to the producer of the best audiobook for children and/or young adults. The Poet X was published by HarperCollins Publishers.

Third, congratulations to Elana K. Arnold, the author of Damsel, which won a Michael L. Printz Honor Award, given to the best book written for young adults. Damsel was published by Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HarperCollins. We’re thrilled that Elana is now part of The Author Village. Her page will be up on our website in a few weeks.

Finally, congratulations to Tiffany Jackson, author of Monday’s Not Coming, which won the Coretta Scott King – John Steptoe Award for New Talent. Monday’s Not Coming was published by Katherine Tegan Books, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers. Tiffany is also now part of The Author Village community.
