Biography
Ruth Chan is an author and illustrator of various books for children including Thank You, Neighbor!, The Alpactory, Rick the Rock of Room 214 written by Julie Falatko, Have You Seen Gordon? Written by Adam Jay Epstein, and Hard-Boiled Bugs for Breakfast written by Jack Prelutsky. Uprooted, her middle grade graphic memoir was named Best Book of 2024 by NPR, Publisher’s Weekly, Kirkus, SLJ, and NY Magazine.
In addition to writing and illustrating books, Ruth is a comics contributor to a number of publications including The New York Times, NY Magazine, and Cup of Jo.
Prior to writing and illustrating full time, Ruth spent her childhood tobogganing in Canada, her teens in China, a number of years studying art and education, and a decade working with youth and families in underserved communities. She is a proud Canadian and lives in NYC with her husband, daughter, and dog, Leroy by the beach.
